✅ Practice new vocabulary and grammar with one of the most popular Ukrainian songs.
So, let’s get started!
📅 Days of the Week (Дні тижня)
First, let’s learn the Ukrainian names for each day!
🔹 Понеділок – Monday
🔹 Вівторок – Tuesday
🔹 Середа – Wednesday
🔹 Четвер – Thursday (четвертий день – "fourth day" of the week)
🔹 П’ятниця – Friday (п'ятий день – "fifth day")
🔹 Субота – Saturday
🔹 Неділя – Sunday
💡 Tip: In Ukrainian, Saturday (Субота) and Sunday (Неділя) are called “вихідні” (weekends). You can associate this word with "вихід" (exit), meaning these are days off from work or school!
🗓 How to Say “On (a certain day of the week)” in Ukrainian
When talking about something happening on a specific day, we use the Accusative case (Знахідний відмінок).
✅ Rule:
1️⃣ Use “У” or “В” before the day.
2️⃣ Change the noun to the accusative case.
Most days of the week in Ukrainian are masculine and inanimate, which means they stay the same in the accusative case:
✔ Понеділок → У понеділок (On Monday)
📝 Try it yourself!
✔ Вівторок → _______ (On Tuesday)
✔ Четвер → _______ (On Thursday)
If the word is feminine (ending in -А or -Я), the ending must change in the accusative case:
📌 А → У (hard/mixed stems)
📌 Я → Ю (soft stems)
✔ Середа → У середу (On Wednesday)
✔ П’ятниця → У п’ятницю (On Friday)
📝 Your turn! Fill in the blanks:
✔ Субота → _______ (On Saturday)
✔ Неділя → _______ (On Sunday)
