Idioms are a type of figure of speech — a combination of words with a meaning that differs from its direct translation.

Using such phrases helps develop language skills from a basic level to intermediate or advanced and allows us to express ourselves in ways that are impossible with simple words.

Let’s take an example of an idiom in English: “The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence”.

There are analogues in the Ukrainian language — “Добре там, де нас немає” (literally: It’s good where we are not) or “У сусіда хліб смачніший” (literally: The neighbor’s bread is tastier)

The main essence of these expressions is that the things a person does not have always seem more appealing than the things they do have.

To comprehend the meaning and usage of each idiom, we suggest doing it with our package of “100 Ukrainian idioms”.
